god damn that sucked, if you wanted to be a documentary about the taping of a show from the 70s then it shouldve been that, or if it wanted to be an actual show from the 70s then it shouldve been that, but it just kept breaking the rules of what we’re even watching. at the end i thought it was going to do it in a clever way, that it was going to break the fourth wall and talk directly to us but perhaps i expected too much.
if it’s a documentary that we’re watching (given the intro monologue), how did they get footage inside of his mind?, why are there at least 2 camera operators filming the behind-the-scenes shots framing the subjects but theyre never seen? why are the behind-the-scenes shots higher quality than the actual show?
the visuals are just so inauthentic, maybe ive just been spoiled by the likes of V/H/S or Noroi that filmed on proper tape or at least tried to match the visuals. they just applied chromatic aberration to clean shots and called it a day. the movie seems to care about the 70’s yet ends up taking the lazy way to get there, perhaps the AI generated images throughout the movie speak more to the movie as a whole rather than just “oops sorry we used AI for a few seconds”
horrible acting, EXTREMELY predictable plot. i couldve over looked that if they played it straight and it was just a show from the 70s or perhaps a straight b movie but its not? it just sucked imo
and also the AI generated visuals do honestly take me out a bit, i thought i wouldnt notice it but its just there, not sure why because sometimes they appear and sometimes they dont? and its only for half a second so they couldve just done away with them completely
